Introducing Nico our new cat!
October 4, 2009

Meet Nico, a 6 year old, rescued, stray siamese/tortoise shell mixed cat.

Brooks and I have been talking about getting a pet for along time, but our landlord would only let us have cats. I have been allergic to most cats all my life, but my allergy meds from the summer seemed to have been helping my symptoms from pet sitting Brooks' dad's cat and dogs. So, we went to look at cats from the cat adoption team and Nico was the first to jump onto my lap. From then on I was hooked! I couldn't stop thinking about her and went back 2 days later, spent time with her, didn't get "allergic", then adopted her. She has been a happy camper ever since. Hooray for Nico, the nicest, cuddliest, sleepiest cat!

TWIN BEARS ARE BACK!!!
January 17, 2009

Hello everyone,

We hope everyone has adjusted to the new 2009. Brooks and I are just now getting settled from the "arctic blast" a few weeks back, where we were snowed in for 2 weeks! Well, we were actually snowed in for a week, but the city of Portland freaks out when major snow happens and most things get shut down.

We have re-stocked our Twin Bears design due to your continued "outcry" to bring the bears back. So we listened...and we are happy to have them back!!

 best!

Noel & Brooks

Oh Buggy movie !?!?
October 4, 2008

Well, not quite. Thanks to the movie "On the Wing", Brooks and I are interviewed and make an appearance. It's a documentary about those famous little birds, the Chapman swifts, who come to Portland every year for the month of September to roost. It is the largest convergence of birds in a single area in the US(usually up to 30,000 or so birds at its peak) and they are making their way to South America before the winter season hits.

If you haven't seen the swifts this year, go see this movie! It's made by local documentary filmmaker Dan Viens. And playing at Cinema 21 this weekend.

 All hearts,

 Oh Buggy

PROUDLY ANNOUNCING COLLECTION 2 & the Hawthorne Street Fair
August 11, 2008

Hello Friends,

Did you notice that we have new designs up? We're very excited about our new shirts because we have switched the sourcing for our materials. Our shirts are now 100% US made. Check them out!

The Explode La Mode fashion show was a success! Thanks to everyone who helped us out including our fabulous models (Erika, David, Joe, Jessica, Anthea, Tony), our hairstylist Julie, and DJ Kiss n Tell who helped us dance into the night at our afterparty. Last but not least, thanks to all who came out to see us.

Did you miss us at the fashion show? We will be selling our new designs this Saturday at the Hawthorne Street Fair (11am - 6pm, our booth will be at 40th and Hawthorne). We love street fairs because they engage Portland residents in community building and they support local artists and musicians!! Check it out:

The importance of cotton sourcing
August 11, 2008

Hello Friends,

One reason we switched from our old blanks manufacturer to A.S. Tees is because we wanted to make sure all of the cotton was grown in the US. Check out this video concerning Uzbeki cotton. Although it greatly simplifies the economics/politics of the situation, it raises concerns of human rights issues abroad and the garment industry's complicity with bad governments.

Heart,

Brooks

Toxic Garbage Island documentary series on vbs.tv
May 5, 2008
Hello Friends,

Vice Broadcasting System has put up an eye-opening series on the supposed large island of garbage floating in the Pacific. The series definitely has a "Vice" quality to it, but I think they did a good job of documenting the trashing of our oceans.  Here's a link the first installment, I recommend watching the whole series.  Research it, talk about it, see what's going on.

Brooks

Our California trip
January 7, 2008

Happy New Year!

We're back in Portland after a wonderful whirlwind trip to California. We went down to enjoy the weather, scout some boutiques, and pretend that our vacation was endless. Sounds great, right? It was. Getting tasty Chinese food delivered to us on Christmas eve in San Francisco was epic! LA was a dream! We visted dozens of shops that inspired us to continue designing and developing our line.

Have a great 2008,

OH BUGGY HAS FINALLY LAUNCHED !
December 24, 2007

GREETINGS DEAR FRIENDS,

It is here. For the past year, Brooks and I have been drinking coffee and doodling in our sketchbooks trying to create designs that made us feel happy. My work in graphic design and photography was a perfect match for Brooks' passion for fashion and minimal drawing style. Upon deciding to start our own silk screening apparel company we wanted to start things right by researching our resources carefully and making choices that were directly inspired by our own lives.

First of all, we are inspired by cultural friendliness. Growing up with a dual-cultural background has influenced our decision to support diversity, multi-ethnicity, and the marginalized. The latter category includes independent artists, musicians, small business owners, free thinkers, etc.

Second, we realize the impact that one shirt can make on our environment, and how the fashion industry, in its use of raw materials, often overlooks the sheer volume of energy and materials consumed. We have chosen Alternative Earth for our shirts and they are made out of 100% organic cotton. Using organic cotton uses no pesticides or chemical fertilizers, this maximizes soil fertility and protects the environment.

Third, not only do we have aresponsibility to help sustain the environment, we have one to the people that we co-exist with. This is the reason why we chose sweatshop free garments.

Lastly, we wanted to create something that would join our creative energies into something we could share with those we love. Our work comes from our love for the things we find the most endearing, whether it be a cup of tea on the front porch or watching cartoons in our pajamas, we hope to influence others by the example we set.

The creation of Oh Buggy is an extension of how we see the world and now we are finally ready to go public with a few of our designs. Please take a look at our shop and tell us what you think. We'd be happy to hear from all of you.

all hearts,

Noel & Brooks
